The World Economic Forum says that one of the defining characteristics of the 4th Industrial Revolution is that innovation is happening all over the world today — not just in traditional pockets such as Silicon Valley or London.

One result of that is that innovation is happening closer to the people actually being served all over the world, in a way that is much more meaningful and impactful for regional consumers.

Lumkaa Tech, a new startup in Kenya, is an example of this. They are developing a new streaming media platform specifically designed for consumers in East Africa (and then the broader continent).

They are focused on serving creators in Africa, delivering livestream, audio, and video features to drive diversity in content, serving consumers in the pan-African markets.

Kenya has become quite the hotbed of innovation in recent years. The notion of mobile money (being able to pay for things with your mobile phone) is something that many of us do every day now using services such as Apple Pay. The concept was pioneered in Kenya way back in 2005, as M-Pesa became the first wide-spread mobile money product. So it’s not surprising that Lumkaa Tech, headquartered in Kenya, is now leading the way with a creator-focused streaming media platform.

There are 1.3 billion people in Africa. It is a huge market that is still underserved across many consumer sectors. Lumkaa Tech is working to create a new media platform built by Africans, for Africans.
